Amid growing economic challenges faced by many families, particularly in Hadramout Governorate, Yemen, the Firewood Collection Tools Distribution Project emerges as an important step toward empowering vulnerable households to transition from poverty to productivity and self-reliance.
The project was implemented by Albadyh Foundation with funding from the Deutsch-Jemenitischer Verein für Hilfe und Entwicklung e.V., targeting 10 families engaged in firewood collection—a primary source of income for many households struggling with severe economic difficulties.
Project Details A total of 10 complete sets of firewood collection tools were distributed, each including a transport cart, an electric saw, and integrated firewood equipment. These tools significantly improved the efficiency of daily work, reduced time and physical effort, and enhanced overall productivity.
Utilization of Firewood Many of the beneficiaries rely on cutting and bundling firewood for sale in local markets, where it is used by households, restaurants, and traditional bakeries. Some also convert the wood into charcoal, selling it as a finished product, thereby creating new income opportunities and contributing to the project’s long-term sustainability.
Project Outcomes The project brought about a tangible improvement in beneficiaries’ lives. Many expressed deep satisfaction with the initiative, which enabled them to work more efficiently and with less hardship. The modern tools increased the volume of wood collected and transported daily, positively impacting household income and helping families meet their basic needs.
Beneficiary Voices One participant shared: “We used to face great difficulties working with old tools, but after receiving the new equipment, firewood collection has become easier and faster, and our income has improved significantly. We are grateful to the supporting and implementing organizations for this project.” Another added: “The project gave us the opportunity to work better. The modern tools reduced our physical effort and increased our productivity, which has helped us improve our living conditions.”
